1.Who can qualify for the Scholarship?

The student must either be a Singapore citizen or a Permanent Resident of Singapore.


2. What is the minimum education level to qualify?

The student must be pursuing at least secondary level education in Singapore.


3. Which students are eligible to apply for the Scholarship?

Students in need of financial assistance, who have physical or intellectual disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder, and who have displayed scholastic aptitude. They must be attending Secondary schools, the Institute of Technical Education, Junior Colleges, Polytechnics and other Tertiary Institutions or Special Schools.


Students with permanent physical disabilities, including students with hearing and visual impairments.

4. Who are the students with physical disabilities?


They include students who have Special Educational Needs (SEN), because of developmental disabilities/conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, Global Development Delay etc. The students must be attending a Special School.

5. Who are students with intellectual disabilities?


6. Do students with physical/intellectual disabilities need to support their applications with formal diagnosis from a medical professional?

Yes, but if they are unable to produce a certified report because for eg the report has been misplaced, they have to state the reasons for the non-production in the application form and attach a report from the school evidencing the disability. 

 

7. Is there any criteria on academic results for secondary school applicants?

There is no strict criteria but the student must do reasonably well and pass most of his/her subjects with fairly good grades.

 

8. Who can provide recent testimonials for the students?

The Year Head / Form Teacher / Subject Teacher / CCA Teacher /Class teacher who knows the applicant well, meaning that this teacher must have taught the student in the past year or is currently teaching the student. 

 

9. If the parents are self employed, how do they send evidence of their income?

If the parents do not have their IRAS Notice of Assessment, please submit the estimated income per month, and state the parents’ occupation accordingly.

 

10. How will successful applicants receive their scholarship awards?

A bank transfer will be made to the school or institution, which will disburse the awards to the parent or guardian of the successful applicants, if they are below Tertiary level. For Tertiary students, the bank transfer will be made directly to their bank accounts.

 

11. Upon receipt of the award, must the student acknowledge receipt or the teacher?

The student must acknowledge receipt of the award.

 

12. What is the income requirement?

The average per capita gross monthly income (PCHI) of the household should be $2000 or less for the last 12 months prior to the application. To calculate the PCHI, divide the monthly gross income of all the people living in the same household who are related by blood or marriage who are earning an income, by the number of people living in the same household who are related by blood or marriage.

For example, if a father and a mother with 3 young children are both working and he earns a gross income of $24,000 a year, or $2000 a month, and she earns a gross income of $30,000 a year, or $2500 a month, that would be a monthly gross household income of $2000 + $2,500 = $4,500 a month. The PCHI would be $4,500 divided by 5 people = $900.

 

 

13. Is there a limit to the number of scholarships awarded ?

No. The Trustees of the Fund will review and assess all the applications received and will award scholarships to deserving cases accordingly.

 

14 . Do the students need to attend any interviews?

No.

 

15. If student has applied for other scholarship/bursary, and amount has not been confirmed, can the student still submit an application to the Fund?

Yes, but please state so in the form and provide information on what other scholarship/bursary has been applied for, the estimated amount of that scholarship/bursary and when the results of that application will be known.

 

16. Are past/current recipients also eligible to apply for this Scholarship?

Yes, if they satisfy the criteria spelt out in the application form.

 

17. The student will be graduating and not attending any school next year.  Is he/she still eligible to apply ? 

No, the student may only apply if he is going to be attending school in the following year.
