The Singapore Association of Women Lawyers (SAWL) is a professional body and non-profit organisation which has made significant contributions for the community since its formation in 1974.
SAWL’S POEM
In the days of yore back in 74
A society was formed here in Singapore
Solely for girls on the legal side
Now their number is a matter of pride
All this woman power here in one place
May make us seem quite fierce to face
As a matter of fact we’re really quite nice
When you warm up to us we will melt just like ice
Anyone can quote us part of an act
And we’ll surely know just how to react
We are after all the ladies of SAWL
Legally solid- just look at us all
We’re just as at home with judges and cops
As we are with nappies dishes and pots
So don’t be deceived by our lipstick and tights
We can pack quite a punch when it comes down to fights
We dare not surmise if nature or nurture
Has chartered the course of our legal future
Some say its nature, some said its nurture
But what does it matter as long as we feature
So we’ll leave you tonight with this little prize
Fear not you all if our numbers rise
For if law didn’t have the feminine touch
Litigation wouldn’t amount to much
